what is hughes' purpose in writing this essay? how can you tell? what was gregory"s purpose in writing his essay? do these relate in any way to the purpose i gave for writing your in class essay?

hugehes purpose for writing this essay is to tell the read how much people around us infuence our decisions. you can tell that the congregation of the church forced him in to pretending that he accepted something he couldnt see or feel. all the stories that we have read have at less one thing if not more in common with one another which is the pressure of society is the deciding factor in what we decide to do.

what rules is gregory breaking in the story? why? is he justified? think about his story in comparison with your own, and with Elwood, and with the story we read in class. how do the stories compare?

from what i was reading this story happened around the 1930's where anything interracial was wrong. gregory the main character of this story broke the law of liking a white girl. i believe he is justified for his actions and his feelings. he wasnt hurting anyone. he was just infatuated by this girl, and did anything to get her to notice him.this story about gregory, my story about stealing ,are somewhat close in comparison but all gregory was trying to do was to be notice by by a white girl name helene. by rejecting the fact that he was poor and did what he could to make her believe he wasnt so she notice him like everyone else instead of being poor kind of like me stealing to be like everyone else so they wouldnt tease me but the movie we watched in class elwood stole because he didnt care what happened. he just wanted to make money.

breaking rules [15 Feb 2006|07:40pm]
write about a time when you broke a rule?
1.conscious
2. reason

when i was five years old i was starting first grade and my teacher was collecting money for a fundraiser at school for something I'm not to sure what it was for but i wanted to help. so i went home and instead of asking my parent for money i decided take it from them instead. i didnt know the value of the dollar at the time so i just grabbed what ever was in my dads wallet. the next day my teacher was collecting and i gave her what i had stolen but when i did my teacher notice that the amount that i gave her was just a little too extreme. i gave her about two hundred dollars. she phone my house and lets just say my butt was killing me for about a few weeks. i knew what i was doing when i grabbed the money out of my dads wallet, but being a little kid i thought it was worth it because i thought it was going for a good cause.

Tell me honestly: how do you feel about grammar? Do you really think you should have to learn it? Does it do anything useful for us? Or is it just pointless bunk that you have to memorize? In your response, try to give some examples - times you've felt like having a better knowledge of grammar would've helped you, times when you've been pretty sure it wasn't helping at all. You probably realize from the graffiti assignment that this is what we're talking about in both 1A and 50 on Wednesday, so try to think up some answers to this question that you'd also be willing to offer up in class this week.

1. honestly grammar is really hard. like you said in class on monday high schools don't really focus on grammar skills, so i'm not where i should be at.
2. i really do think learning grammar is important, not only will it improve my writing skills it will help my language skills as well.
3. grammar show a writer with education, good grammar may present with great oppportunities in any career field.
